Mike Young
NCMM Board President Mike Young

We’re simplifying our NCMM membership structure, to make it easier to join and benefit from NCMM.

In the past, we listed 15 possible membership classes on our web site. That’s WAY too complicated.

We studied best practices of organizations like ours. These organizations offered a few easy to understand membership tiers. The costs and benefits of each tier were clearly explained. And they offered the option of annual or monthly dues.

So we’ve done the same. NCMM now offers four membership tiers:

Tier 1: Apprentice.

This brand new tier targets individuals who minister to men or boys on a part-time, volunteer basis. They may lead a men’s Bible study, a men’s ministry program in a church, a boy’s group or sports team. NCMM connects apprentices to the larger men’s ministry community and helps them identify tools that can help their men flourish. Membership: $29/yr.

Benefits: Apprentices receive a free book every year, discounted admission to the NCMM National Gathering and access to our members-only Facebook page. Apprentices may also attend regional meetups where they can meet other disciple-makers.

Tier 2: Journeyman.

These are typically part-time professional ministers or organizations. They earn some income from their ministry pursuits, but are not full-time professionals. Journeymen are often authors and speakers who are looking for opportunities to share what they’ve learned. They may also be founders of small ministry organizations that focus on specific men’s issues. Membership: $10/mo. or $99/yr.

Benefits: Journeymen receive all the benefits of Apprentices (except the annual book), and also receive a listing in the NCMM online directory. Journeymen may contribute the blog and may contribute to NCMM projects such as The Men’s Bible.

Tier 3: Master.

Masters are typically men’s ministry leaders who spend most of their time and earn most of their income from ministry-related pursuits. Masters are looking to expand their influence, build awareness of their resources and enter into strategic partnerships with like-minded individuals and organizations. They are fully engaged in discipleship and place a high value on networking with other men’s ministry professionals. Organizations with regional or national reach usually join as Masters. Paid church-based men’s ministers often join at the Master level. Membership: $30/mo. or $299/yr.

Benefits: Masters receive all the benefits of Journeymen plus they may publicize their events on the NCMM event calendar, and may offer discounted products via a monthly NCMM e-mail.

Tier 4: Craftsman.

This membership tier gathers the ministries that are “all in” with ministry to men. Craftsmen strengthen NCMM by joining at our highest level. Craftsmen include national and international ministry organizations, Christian films, conference ministries, etc. Membership: $50/mo. or $499/yr.

Benefits: Craftsmen receive all the benefits of Masters plus one half-price admission to NCMM’s National Gathering.

To see our new membership tiers in detail, visit our membership page by clicking here.

Our new membership structure is designed to make it easier to join and support NCMM. We want to expand the number of individuals and organizations in NCMM, so we can to do together what none of us can do alone.

We will be switching our existing members over to the new tiers during the month of July. You don’t have to do anything now. You’ll have an opportunity to adjust your membership tier at renewal time, if you so desire.

NCMM’s new member-produced book, “How to Disciple Men – Short and Sweet” hits the shelves September 1. Here’s a description:

Got 15 minutes?

Sharpen your ministry to men.

Learn from the experts on ministry to men. Each brief chapter is packed with practical advice from leaders who have dedicated their lives to helping men become more like Jesus. Hear their stories. Learn from their mistakes. Profit from their advice.

The 45 contributors to this book have more than a thousand years of combined experience ministering to men. Contributors include bestselling authors Josh McDowell, Kenny Luck, David Murrow and Patrick Morley.

This book is presented by the National Coalition of Ministries to Men. If you disciple men, NCMM is your tribe. Learn more at www.NCMM.org.

If you wrote a chapter for the book, read this:

Forty-five NCMM members contributed a chapter each to the book. If you are one of the 45, Jamie Swan, Director of Sales and Customer Service for Broadstreet Publishing, is expecting an email from you. I encourage you to send him a note right now, while it’s top of mind.

jamie.swan@broadstreetpublishing.com

Just say . . . “Hi Jamie, this is my best email address.”

When he gets your short note, he will send you a one-page account application. Fill it out ASAP and that will give Broadstreet all the info on where to send books and how to collect payment.

The book should be in the warehouse by August 1. Which means you should receive copies by August 15. Official book release is September 1. If you have an event in August, let Jamie know and he will expedite books to you as needed.

Just a reminder. You have committed to buying 100 books at $5/each. The book retails for $14.99.  You can sell them for any amount. Or give them away. Until further notice, you can get additional copies for $5 (in case quantities). You don’t have to pay tax.  But you do have to cover shipping.

I’ll answer any questions. But I should be pretty much out of the loop at this point. Jamie is eager to serve!

God’s best,
Jay Payleitner, General Editor

Darrel BillupsWhen Darrel Billups took the helm at NCMM, the organization had fewer than 40 members. If NCMM was going to grow, it needed an executive director. But there was no money to pay one.

Darrel took the job on faith, and God honored that faith by prospering the organization during his seven year tenure. During that time NCMM:

  • Grew its membership from 40 to more than 200 individuals and organizations.
  • Established an Advocate team to help connect new members.
  • Launched regional meet-ups around the country.
  • Worked with the American Bible Society on the Men’s Bible. NCMM members contributed 72 different devotions for the Bible. Over 10,000 copies sold resulting in a 2nd edition released in 2016.
  • Developed relationships with motion picture industry for support of faith-based films that pertain to men. This resulted in NCMM becoming a major contributor for input and support.
  • Implemented an NCMM Sponsorship program to help stabilize the budget.
  • Large national ministries such as Focus on the Family, American Bible Society, Family Life, Christian Men’s Network, LifeWay and others joined or re-joined NCMM.

NCMM Board president Mike Young said, “As our Executive Director, Darrel encouraged ministries and ministry leaders to maximize their influence for the glory of Christ and advancement of the Kingdom. I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to serve with and learn from him. Many of us in NCMM will continue to ‘ride on his coat tails and choke in his dust’.”

Former Board president Leary Gates said, “One of the true joys of my life has been to work with Darrel over the past seven years. From the moment he joined us as Executive Director, he demonstrated an enormous and enthusiastic heart for this ministry and for every leader that’s a part of it. Not only is NCMM better because of his leadership, but I’ve been personally and deeply enriched by him as well.”

Dr. Darrel Billups has been a Christian for over 50 years. He has served on church boards, elder boards, and deacons and youth ministry. He founded a Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter in St. Charles, Missouri that still functions today. Professionally, he was an aerospace engineer, teacher/coach in public school, and founded a small business that grew to be the largest in the plastics shapes industry.

In 2005 Darrel found what God had designed for his purpose – men’s ministry. His passion is guiding men into a walk with Christ and assisting these men to guide others. He served Bayside Church as the Men’s Ministry Director from 2005 through 2010, when NCMM tapped him to be its Executive Director.

In early 2017 a series of health setbacks forced Darrel to retire from NCMM, effective March 31. He is succeeded by Clair Hoover.

Darrel and his wife Arlene reside in Sacramento, CA. They have three children and seven grandchildren.

Darrel says, “Keep in touch.” You can reach him at: darrelbillups@ncmm.org. Or call him at +1 (805) 312-9830.

Come to a Regional Meet-Up Near You

Ministering to men is one of the toughest jobs on the planet. You can spend all your time and energy pouring into other men’s lives – but fail to build meaningful relationships with men who share your goals and vision.

NCMM wants to help you stay strong. And one of the ways we’re doing that is through regional meet-ups in cities around the country. We schedule these meet-ups adjacent to bigger men’s events sponsored by one of our NCMM members. That way you can attend the big event and the regional meet-up the same weekend.

Anyone can attend these meet-ups free of charge. They include a complimentary breakfast or lunch and a couple of hours for networking and fellowship. There’s no sermon or singing – just a chance to meet men who struggle with the same challenges you do. It’s a perfect opportunity to share strategies, encourage one another, and pray for your brothers in Christ.

Before or after the meet-up we strongly encourage you to stick around and participate in the larger men’s event. All of these events are sponsored by NCMM members.

And one more thing – if you know other men who minister to men, bring them to a meet-up. It’s a great way to encourage these brothers and give them a peek at what NCMM is all about.

We’ve got four more regional meet-ups scheduled for 2017. Here’s when:

April 28 — New Orleans, LA
5 to 8 p.m., dinner included
Event: LifeWay Main Event, April 29, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

May 5 — Victoria, TX
8:30 to 10:30 a.m., breakfast included
Event: Reload 361, May 4, 6 to 9 p.m.

July 28 — Nashville, TN
Noon to 3, lunch included
Event: LifeWay Main Event, July 28 and 29, 5:30 p.m. to noon

August 18 — Greenville, SC
Noon to 3 p.m., lunch included
Event: LifeWay Main Event, August 18-19, 5:30 p.m. to noon

NCMM is “Acc-celebrating” 20 Years

e1ddf13c-d09a-4871-9898-7e94826824d4

We’re celebrating our founding two decades ago –
and we’re accelerating full-throttle into the future.

The National Coalition of Ministries to Men began at the height of the Promise Keepers movement. A handful of men’s ministry leaders banded together to do what they couldn’t do alone.

Today, NCMM has grown to more than 200 organizations and individuals who minister to men. We’ll be celebrating 20 years of ministry to men at this year’s RELOAD Leadership Summit. Don’t miss this opportunity to hang out with the legends of men’s ministry – and meet the up and comers who are changing the world for Christ.

I’m Not Ashamed
In Theaters October 21

hacksawridge-300x600-v4HACKSAW RIDGE is the extraordinary true story of WWII medic Desmond Doss, played by Andrew Garfield (The Amazing Spiderman), who, in Okinawa during the bloodiest battle of WWII, miraculously saved 75 men in a matter of hours without firing or carrying a gun. He was the only American soldier in WWII to fight on the front lines without a weapon, except the simple prayer he uttered before he single-handedly evacuated the wounded from behind enemy lines, under constant enemy gunfire and artillery bombardment. Doss’ courage and faith won the admiration of his commanders and fellow soldiers, as he saved the lives of the very men who had persecuted him for refusing to carry a gun. He believed the war was just, but to kill under any circumstance was wrong. Doss was labeled the first conscientious objector (he called himself a “conscientious cooperator” as he volunteered) to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor. Hacksaw Ridge is directed by Mel Gibson (Braveheart, The Passion of the Christ) and also stars Sam Worthington, Luke Bracey, Teresa Palmer, Hugo Weaving, Rachel Griffiths and Vince Vaughn. Coming to theaters nationwide November 4th, 2016.

NCMM is “Acc-celebrating” 20 Years! We’re celebrating our founding two decades ago — and we’re accelerating full-throttle into the future.

The National Coalition of Ministries to Men began as the seed of an idea sown by a few pioneering men’s ministry leaders who banded together in 1996 to do what they couldn’t do alone. Today, NCMM is a thriving organization of large and small men’s ministries from across the country who will gather in Orlando for Reload’16, the largest annual assembly of men’s ministry leaders in the nation. Reload’16 is one of the best investments you can make to reconnect and recharge for another season of transformational ministry to men.

Dear Brothers,

The new Pure Flix film “Hillsong – Let Hope Rise” is about how some of the most popular modern day songs we all sing in church were created. As in so many accounts from the Bible, God uses ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary tasks. In this movie, we see ordinary young people listening to God’s voice and applying their giftedness in powerful ways.

Now, in partnership with NCMM, Pure Flix offers the opportunity for you and everyone involved in your ministry to arrange group viewings of this phenomenal film. So here’s what I strongly urge you to do. Simply forward the information below to everyone on your mailing list or in your database. Encourage them to gather their ministries together to see “Hillsong – Let Hope Rise.”

And please do me a favor – reply to this email when you distribute this information, and give me an approximate number of people who will receive it. I want to tell Pure Flix how enthusiastically NCMM supports the release of this film.

Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to invite the people in your circle of influence to rejoice in a uniquely worshipful, God-honoring motion picture experience.
